“Contractors working for the Alabama Department of Transportation continue into the 21th week of construction operations on the Interstate 59/20 bridges through downtown Birmingham. The bridges are being rebuilt as part of a $475 million project that will require the highway to be closed for an estimated 14 months. That closure began January 21. These photos were taken June 12, 2019. Highlights this week are new sections being constructed and extended between the BJCC and Boutwell and near the Red Mountain Expressway ramp. Also new additions being made near 16th Street North.” Click here to view the photos by Joe Songer on al.com
